Assuming that you already have a website that is aesthetic in design and contains valuable, relevant and informative content, you will need to:

a. Place relevant keywords or phrases within the first 25 words on the webpage in question. The rest need to be spread evenly.
b. The keywords or key phrases need to be relevant to the niche that your products and services belong to.
c. Also, using the keywords where they matter most is very important i.e. in meta-tags, title, headers etc.

engines and directories manually. Cut out the automated submission and hire a third party of required.
f. Follow the changes in the search engine ranking algorithms so that you can modify your site on time to keep it on top of those search engines.
g. Keep an eye on your competition and their rankings. Also, analyze your competition time to time to see what they are doing.
h. Analyze your traffic statistics provided b your web host. If you are getting more traffic from links, isolate them and increase them and if you are getting more traffic from search engines, make sure your rankings stay put or go up the ladder.
i. Some direct marketing by way of email newsletters, discount coupons and keep-in-touch mails can go a great distance in retaining your clients.
j. Keep the payment and shipment options simple so that the clients have no hassles buying from your website.

Last but not the least, keep your content rotating and do not make it look like an electronic brochure. People would like to come back to it again and more they more the better are the chances that they buy.
